Earlier this year Bexx and I had the idea of writing a bunch of companies and seeing if we could get some sponsorship on the channel. We needed to upgrade some of our equipment and this would be the most ideal way to do it. So we wrote a million and one companies and sooner or later we got a bite. A company called ZWO - one of the top astrophotography companies on the planet.

They sent us a ZWO ASI183MC Pro Color CMOS camera for our telescope and it looked serious and mean. We were excited to have got it but neither of us knew where to start on how to use it. Up until now we've ONLY had crappy CCD cameras and this one had more ins and outs than I've ever seen a camera have. It was a daunting task and both of us were a little too intimidated to try it out.

Well the Moon came along the last few nights and motivated us to get off our butts, set up the telescope and give it a try. Try we did and we nailed it the first time. The ONLY problem with this camera is that it's made for deep sky objects like Nebula, Magellan Clouds, planets and galaxies. We decided to use it on the Moon in video mode. This thing is made for taking still images which are later stacked. Needless to say we took a 3 minute long video which made a file that was over 160GB of data. WOW!

Thank god I had just cleaned off my hard drive on my laptop or I would've been F#I#@D'!

Anyways, I did what I could to compress the file by screen recording the video as I played it. Unfortunately I forgot to record at 1080p or even 4K. I unfortunately recorded at 720p so the quality really sucks on this video. I can't begin to explain the quality of the original video. I included some still images at the beginning of the video that shows you how amazing this quality is. You can zoom in on the Moon like never before. No pixilation, no blur, just sharp and beautiful photos. It's unbelievable.

You really have to see the quality of this camera to fully understand how amazing it truly is.

I have a feeling this camera is going to ruin the moon for a lot of us who still look at the lunar surface with wonder and mystery. There won't be anymore mystery once I figure out how to properly use this amazing ASI183MC Pro Color CCD Camera - this thing is unbelievable. I really wish all of you could've seen how amazing the original video actually was before I had to compress it down in order to actually use it and show it to all of you. The compression did a number to the quality. Soon, I will fully figure out a better way to capture the video and images out of this camera. You'll soon see what I mean about how amazing this camera truly is.
