Exploring the Rivers of the Arctic Refuge

Listen Later

Ed Bennett has lived in Alaska ever since the Army sent him here from Connecticut in July 1970. His career as a journalist included work as a reporter and editor in radio, television, and newspapers. He served as Jay Hammond’s press secretary in Jay's successful 1974 gubernatorial campaign. Ed later helped create Alaska’s first statewide TV newsmagazine, Alaska Review. He coordinated coverage of the Exxon Valdez oil spill as the assignment editor at KTUU television. In 1975 he co-founded NOVA Riverunners and continues to float rivers to this day. Georgia Bennett was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and was determined to escape and see the world from the time she could read Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden. There was a life out there and she wanted to find it! December 1975 found her in Anchorage, Alaska, and she has lived here ever since. After spending more than 20 years as a graphic designer, she now focuses largely on photography.   Georgia and Ed live in Eagle River. They greatly enjoy rafting in the wilderness and visiting new and old places with their cameras in hand. They own and operate Bennett Images, a photography business that has become Alaska’s largest manufacturer of metal prints, making metal prints of their own work as well as for numerous talented artists and photographers. They have been married 18 years and between them, they have three wonderful adult children and seven grandchildren (also two happy dogs).   Ed and Georgia presented some beautiful slides which you can find here -    https://www.dropbox.com/s/55tewz94bx34o6v/GMT20201025-163937_Virtual-Fo_1760x900.mov?dl=0   Images copyrighted by Ed and Georgia Bennett.
