Very few things make us more irritated than hypocrisy. When someone says one thing and then does another. But hypocrisy happens not just in politics, but very often the case in religion too. Hypocrisy happens among Christians in churches. In our passage today, Jesus exposes hypocritical religion that charades as righteousness and shows us what true righteousness looks like.

a. Not to be praised (1-2)

b. But to please our Heavenly Father (3-4)

2. Prayer (5-15)

a. Why do we pray – not to be seen by others but God (5-6)

b. To whom do we pray – our Father who knows our needs (7-8)

c. How do we pray – seeking first God’s Kingdom (9-15)

3. Fasting (16-18)

a. Not to be seen  (16)

b. But in secret (17-18)
