Today, on Father’s Day, many of us are celebrating the father figures in our lives and the love they have shown us. Fittingly, our Gospel reading this Sunday asks us to reflect on one of Jesus’ momentous acts of love—the feeding of the 5,000.

In our passage, we find Jesus surrounded by a crowd of 5,000 people. His 12 disciples approach Jesus and encourage him to send the crowds to the village to find nourishment. Instead, Jesus encourages his disciples to share their own provisions—five loaves of bread and two fish.
