Coal-fired power has less than 30 years left in Australia according to the owners of Hazelwood, Engie.

The French-based owners have defended the decison to close the business saying the costs more to operate than any other coal fired plant in the state.

Engie's Australian boss Alex Keisser says coal's days are numbered.
