Negative Third Conditional for Mergers

The third conditional in the negative, like "If the CEO hadn't championed the merger, the board wouldn't have approved it,"  explores an alternative past. It means the CEO DID champion the merger, and as a direct result, the board DID approve it.

Formula:

• If + had + not + past participle, ... would + not + have + past participle

- If the CEO hadn't championed the merger, the board of directors wouldn't have approved it.

- If the companies hadn't shared similar corporate cultures, the integration wouldn't have been so seamless.

- If the market conditions hadn't been favorable, the merger wouldn't have generated such significant shareholder value.

- If the employees hadn't been kept informed throughout the process, there wouldn't have been so much uncertainty and anxiety.

- If the legal teams hadn't negotiated effectively, the deal wouldn't have closed on time.
