Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 343-points this morning from yesterday's close, at

21,374 on turnover of $7.6-billion N-T.

The market closed down slightly on Wednesday after moving in consolidation

mode as investers sentiment was muted ahead of the release of August's

consumer price index data.

Tech heavyweights fluctuated in narrow range before selling emerged late in

the session - but turnover still shrank to its second lowest level so far

this year as many investors opted to stay on the sidelines.

Taiwan Wins 15 R&D 100 Awards

The Ministry of Economic Affairs says Taiwan research institutions have won

15 awards at this year's R&D 100 Awards.

The awards tally set a new record as the highest number of Taiwan has ever

received at the not for profit innovation-focused program.

or used to establish new startups ..

The R&D 100 Awards is a US-based not for profit innovation-focused program

established in 1963.

NKorea Launches Multiple Missiles Towards Sea

South Korea says North Korea has fired multiple short-range ballistic

missiles toward the sea.

Today's launches are North Korea’s first public weapons firing activities in

more than two months.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected the missiles launched

from North Korea’s capital flying about 360 kilometers before landing in the

waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

The reported fight distances suggest the missiles were designed to attack

targets in South Korea.

On Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed to redouble (加倍) efforts

to make his nuclear force fully ready for combat with the United States and

its allies.

Smashed Ancient Jar Repaired and Back on Display

An Israeli museum has put back on display a rare Bronze-Era jar that a

4-year-old accidentally smashed.

Last month, a family from northern Israel was visiting the museum when their

youngest son tipped over the jar, smashing it into pieces.

Restoration experts were able to carefully piece the 3,500-year-old item back

together.

The jar at the Hecht Museum in Haifa was one of the only containers of its

size and from that period still complete when it was discovered.

It was likely used to hold wine or oil, and dates back to between 2200 and

1500 B.C.

The museum invited the family back for a special visit and hands-on activity

to illustrate (說明) the restoration process.
