MOI to Hold Plane Crash and Earthquake Drills Next Wednesday

The Ministry of the Interior says it will be holding a series of drills next

Wednesday as part of a three-day national exercise to mark the annual

National Disaster Prevention Day.

According to the ministry, more than 1,300 people, including the public,

central and local government officials, and Japanese NGO staff, will

participate (參加) in the drills.

A plane crash drill will simulate a plane crash following a typhoon and will

take place in Penghu County, while the earthquake drill will simulate a

magnitude 7.3 earthquake striking Chiayi County's Zhuqi Township.

In addition to the drills, a text alert will be sent to people's mobile

phones at 9:21AM on September 20 by the Central Weather Administration, along

with an alarm sound.

Sirens will also sound across the island at 10AM, warning people in coastal

towns to be aware of a possible tsunami.

While all television channels will cut to the Public Television Service for a

two-minute broadcast of disaster prevention information from 10:59 to

11:01AM.

NKorea Releases Images of Purported Nuclear Production Facility

North Korea has offered a rare glimpse into a secretive (秘密的) facility to

produce nuclear materials as it says leader Kim Jong Un visited the area and

called for stronger efforts to increase his nuclear weapons.

It’s unclear if the site is its previously known nuclear-enrichment site in

Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang, or another that was undisclosed until now.

The images North Korea’s media released of the area could provide outside

experts a valuable source of information for estimating the amount of nuclear

ingredients North Korea has.

The report today said Kim expressed “great satisfaction repeatedly” over

North Korea's technical force in the nuclear power field.

US Trump Rules Out 2nd Debate

Former US president Donald Trump has categorically ruled out another debate

The Harris campaign had called for a second debate between the pair, after

polls suggested she performed better during Tuesday night's showdown.

Canada Churchill Portrait to be Returned

Canadian police say a renowned portrait of Winston Churchill that was

reported stolen from an Ottawa hotel has been tracked down in Italy.

Investigators will travel to Rome later this month to retrieve the 1941

portrait of the British leader taken by Ottawa photographer Yousuf Karsh.

Officials say once it is in Ottawa police custody, the portrait will be

returned to the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, where it will once again be

displayed as a notable (顯著的) historic portrait.

"The Roaring Lion” was stolen from the Fairmont Chateau Laurier sometime

between Christmas Day 2021 and Jan. 6, 2022, and replaced with a forgery.

The swap was uncovered months later.
