F53-029: What Does Focus53 Really Do?

Listen Later

Today's show is about Focus53 and what I do. Anytime I've been asked this in the past about what I do, I've been very vague and by design I tell them I'm just a geek. I've done this for a couple reasons. I basically had a side hustle my entire life and when you're in a professional environment and you say outwardly that you have a side hustle, it could be career-limiting and so you have to be careful with it. So I've been super vague to a point that I'm really crappy at really saying what I do. So this is part of myself expressing here on the podcast about what I do. This podcast is my way to give back and learn. It's the big lead generator and it's what I use to talk to people.

Three categories of what I'm currently focusing on:
A web design company
Consulting/coaching
Focus53

Podcast as a learning tool
I use this podcast to learn, having spoken with a lot of really cool guests from whom I've learned a ton. There is no better way to literally get in the ears of your prospect than being on someone's podcast that has a great audience.

I've been on people that have thousands of downloads in each show. This means thousands of people listening to what I have to say about myself or my business or the things I can provide. There is no better use of your time than having a podcast and it's a really good way to reach out to cool audiences and share your message.

My purpose of the podcast is just to be immensely valuable, to provide a ton of valuable information.

Consulting/Coaching
This is what I have been doing professionally for the last 20 years. This is where I help business owners with about anything under the sun. These business owners have a great product or service and they are awesome at it but they need help everywhere else. They don't know how to market, run operations, do customer service, or they are doing them but struggling.

People I'm looking for are those who are:
Committed
Driven
Motivated to do great work and run a great business
Self-aware and know they need another set of eyes

What I do with my clients:
Strategy
Business diagnostics (Process breakdowns and system breakdowns)
Making introductions between businesses

How I work with my clients:
Weekly coaching calls
Working on the vision, values, what they want to do and stand for
Focusing on goals (short-term, mid-range, long-term) and milestones
Going through wins and losses
Course correction and addressing issues

As a Virtual COO:
A deeper dive of my coaching/consulting and a more active role in their organization
A win-win situation
I've become very diligent about who I work with in this capacity because I am hooking my trailer to them. I want them to be successful and I could spend 40 hours to help them.

Attributes of these clients I'm working with as a virtual CEO:
Great product/service
Really good at their craft that they're sought after
They know they need help
Having the willingness to change and put in the work
Commitment to do the right things to grow the business long term
Happy and pleasant to be around
With the highest standards and moral integrity
Well-respected and well-liked
Good, genuine, down to earth, above the table

Focus53's road map in the future:
Helping people to get listen to the podcast or be part of the coaching/consulting area or be part of the COO group
Speaking opportunities
Hosting seminars and workshops
Webinars

I'm still very much working on my story, what I do, and how I communicate it. It's a work in progress. It's not perfect. But as I wrestled with this and figuring out what's my true purpose and what's my true calling, am I going to be in the corporate environment for all of my life and make all the sacrifices required, am I just going to sit and be stagnant, I knew that doing nothing wasn't the answer. I wasn't able to crack the code on taking what I'd think I'm really good at and turning that into a product or service. But I've taken the steps to do this podcast, the coaching and consulting, and the virtual COO. There is nothing better for me in the business side of things than helping someone, seeing them succeed, and be an invested partner in their success.
