Most of us don’t wake up in the morning and say, “I think I’m going to rebel against God and screw up my life today.” No, we much more often choose to sin by small degrees.
How prone we are to think, “Well, I am forgiven after all, and I’m not quite strong enough to obey all of God’s commands.” Little sins eventually betray a serious defect deep in our heart. By “little,” of course, I mean little in our eyes, not in God’s eyes. Sin is sin. That I’m quite glad not to murder anyone today is no great virtue when I’m just as apt to ignore God’s presence in my life.
When we look back at all the little sins we’ve committed along the way in the past few weeks, there may be cause to worry: What’s wrong with us? Or, perhaps better put, Why are we so self-inclined and so God-averse? Why are we so apt to choose our will, our way, our timing...instead of choosing God’s will, God’s way, God’s timing?
Face it: We all have a sin problem. The Good News Gospel, however, offers the most amazing remedy in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ [1 Corinthians 15:3-6]. This is the greatest message the world could ever hear. Let’s embrace it, thank God for it, proclaim it and thus reach our world with the glorious Good News of Jesus Christ.
