Face to Face with JESUS

Listen Later

EASTER SUNDAY | April 5, 2026

John 20:11-18 (NLT) Mary was standing outside the tomb crying, and as she wept, she stooped and looked in. She saw two white-robed angels, one sitting at the head and the other at the foot of the place where the body of Jesus had been lying. “Dear woman, why are you crying?” the angels asked her.
“Because they have taken away my Lord,” she replied, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”
She turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him. “Dear woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asked her. “Who are you looking for?”
She thought he was the gardener. “Sir,” she said, “if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and get him.”
“Mary!” Jesus said.
She turned to him and cried out, “Rabboni!” (which is Hebrew for “Teacher”). “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said, “for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene found the disciples and told them, “I have seen the Lord!” Then she gave them his message.

One encounter with Jesus can change the direction of your entire life.

√  YOU CAN BE CLOSE TO JESUS AND STILL MISS HIM.
John 20:14 (NLT) She turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him.

√  WE KEEP LOOKING FOR LIFE IN PLACES MARKED BY DEATH.
Luke 24:2-5 (NLT) They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?

√  JESUS KNOWS HOW TO MEET YOU RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE.
John 20:16 (NIV) Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
Isaiah 41:1-3 (MSG) But now, God’s Message: “Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end - Because I am God, your personal God.”

FACE TO FACE WITH JESUS

I. LET JESUS CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE HIM.
Ephesians 1:17-18 (TLB) I have never stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that he has done for you.

II. RECEIVE THE LIFE ONLY JESUS CAN GIVE.
Ephesians 2:4-5 (TLB) God is so rich in mercy; he loved us so much that even though we were spiritually dead and doomed by our sins, he gave us back our lives again when he raised Christ from the dead.
