I liked the way I looked before my facelift. So why did I get one?
Not because I hated my reflection. Not because I felt young on the inside and old on the outside. I got a facelift for a completely different reason — and it's one most women feel deeply but rarely say out loud.
In this episode I'm getting personal. I'm talking about growing up mixed race in Los Angeles, the social currency of being an attractive woman, what happens when that currency starts to fade, and why losing visibility as we age isn't vanity — it's grief.
I also talk about what it felt like to make myself small for years so other women would feel more comfortable around me. And what I finally decided to do about all of it at 59.
