When a couple gets married, they vow to one another to love one another through whatever comes. Right in the traditional vows themselves is a plain acknowledgement that life is uncertain. So the vows say that no matter what they face (sickness or health, riches or poverty, etc) the love they are promising will endure. Truly this is one of the most notable and desirable parts of love. But it is something we practice. Love holds on. But there are misunderstandings about HOW it holds on. Is an abused woman supposed to stay in a marriage with her abuser because she loves him? Are parents supposed to keep housing and feeding their child who is being wrecked by addiction? How can believers love others in an enduring way while staying healthy and alive in their souls? There are some answers in Scripture and in the example of God’s love for us!
