In this chapter, Montag goes into work. When he enters he walks over to the mechanical hound, a metal dog-like creature that's purpose is to inject victims of the firemen with a deadly poison, and he tries to pet it. The hound then growls at Montag, and he quickly makes his way up the pole to meet his boss Captain Beaty. Later in the week, they are called to burn the home of an old woman who has dozens of prohibited books. The firemen are shocked at the amount of books she has, but even more shocked by the awful act that she tries to do...
