Beaty also explains the full history of the Firemen. he explains hat the history that Montag, and the world have been told, is wrong, and that the Firemen were actually started after the civil war, and he explains to Montag their true purpose... to keep the leading party in charge, and keep people happy by not exposing them to radical ideas.
