Promises for a New Year
Failing. Pastor Michael Dascoli
February 28, 2021
Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 25:14-30
“’I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His boss replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.’” Matthew 25:25-29
Fear of Failure: 3 Things to Remember
1: Everybody Fails
“We all stumble in many ways.” James 3:2a
#2: No failure is final unless I give up
“For even though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” Proverbs 24:16
#3: If I will humbly learn from it, failure is my path to success
“But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patience as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life.” 1Timothy 1:16
“These things are warnings in the Bible written down so that we don't repeat their mistakes. They came before us, but we are just as capable of messing it up as they were.” 1Corinthians 10:11 (Msg)
Fear of Failure: 5 Action Steps
Remember, no matter what happens, God will use it for good
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
I must refuse to compare myself to others
“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before Him.” 1Corinthians 1:27-29
I must redefine failure
I must refocus on God’s love for me
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” 1John 4:18a
I must replace my fear with faith in Jesus
“I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patience as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life.” 1Timothy 1:16b
Let’s Pray:
-What is God’s Spirit saying to you today?
-How must you respond?
