“Fair” is a 4-Letter Word with Joy Rosenthal
In this episode, I sit down with Joy Rosenthal, a lawyer and mediator of 17 years and owner of Rosenthal Law & Mediation. Joy was always interested in and wanted to work with families. No one plans to be a divorce mediator, but in her quest to find the best way to help and support kids and families, she tried a variety of avenues. She began at Divinity School, then went to NYU, where she studied psychology and social work. Volunteering with kids on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, she thought she could be more effective as a lawyer for kids rather than a social worker. Upon graduation from CUNY Law, she got two internships and then a job with Legal Aid. While there, she realized that these cases needed to be mediated, which led her to take courses in mediation and begin mediating divorces with kids.
