Peter thought that he was brave enough and loyal enough to be with Jesus to prison and to death, but Jesus knew Peter better than he knew himself.  Jesus, knowing that Peter would fail, prayed that Peter would have faith that would not fail and that after he turns again he would strengthen his brothers.  Though the depths of our sins may be greater than we know, Jesus intercedes for us that we would have faith after failure and faith to repent.
