The horrors of war were part of their entire life from their birth. Every year, month, and day, they heard of the approaching of the fierce barbaric enemy that was coming closer and closer. The friendly forces diminished day by day until eventually they were unable to defend the capital city. The enemy climbed the mountain and scaled the walls and descended upon the defenseless city wounding, killing, stealing, burning, and destroying everything these 4 boys knew.
The horrifying realties of war assaulted their senses; they smelled the fire, saw the murdering, tasted the destruction, and felt the overwhelming pain of the loss.
In the days that followed, they watched as the conquerors took control, killing all that opposed them and organizing the exile of the few select to march out of their city, country, and life. They were dismayed and terrified when they were included into the ranks of those forced to leave.
