The great commission for us followers of Christ is the infamous verse we read in chapter 24 of the book of Matthew. In verse 19, Jesus said to his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Missions for the most of us,is always going out to a place where Jesus is not known and that means somewhere away from the city and in the far-flung corners of the world. For others it may also be a place where the government and the people are hostile to Christianity. The latter can really put a stigma that going to missions is very dangerous as it could cost your life.
