I’m going to go out on a limb and maybe tick some folks off. So buckle up. In my experience, there are few people more judgmental in the world than those who are so deeply saturated in their beliefs that no other beliefs are valid. What I refer to, mostly, are people of “faith”. This applies to pretty much any religious dogma I’ve ever encountered – including the Jewish faith of my own upbringing. When I met Faith James and she began to share the deep faith-based view of her world, my perspective changed. Big time. I realized it’s because she is devoid of something in which so many people – religious or otherwise – are saturated … judgement. To have faith, truly have faith, and to do so with grace – that is varsity level leadership right there. To know that this comes from someone whose career began in the kind of place where authenticity and lack of judgement are the last things most folks consider – advertising – takes that up another notch.
