Lesson Text
1Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Everyone places their faith in something or someone, whether it’s warranted or not.
Faith that saves (i.e. saving faith) is belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior that results in repentance from sin and the commitment of one’s life to follow Him.
From the jailer’s experience we learn:
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
14What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
To have saving faith you must first HEAR and UNDERSTAND the gospel, which means there must be a MESSENGER.
17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Messengers that share the good news of saving faith experience the matchless joy of knowing they are CO-LABORERS with God.
14How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
