Some of the disciples that were with Jesus on this trip across the Sea of Galilee were experienced fishermen. The Sea of Galilee was known for heavy storms due to the local geography it was located in. Three of the Four Gospels present this event and recount Jesus calming the storm. 


Matthew, Mark, and Luke present this account with the disciples asking what sort of man is Jesus, “that even the winds and the sea obey him”. The timeline of the Gospels presents to us that the disciples that were with Jesus in the boat had heard the Sermon on the Mount, seen miracles and more; but in this instance became fearful (even though Jesus was already with them). They woke Jesus, watched the miracle, and were rebuked for their weak faith.


How often do we get into the “boat of life” and find ourselves caught in a storm? Does our present economy, our finances, anxiety, fear of the unknown, the considerable attack on our Kingdom family structure constitute water rushing over the hull of the boat and wind pushing us in different directions?
