Ps Peter Eng’s sermon on
Romans 1:16–17 emphasised that salvation is by faith from beginning to end. Drawing on Martin Luther’s struggle, he explained that God's righteousness is not earned but received by faith—through
propitiation (God’s wrath turned away by Christ’s death) and
imputation (Christ’s righteousness credited to believers). The gospel is
good news, not advice, and shame should not hinder belief. Christians are saved because
God accepts them in Christ, leading to a life joyfully lived by faith.
