Why do we struggle with assurance/confidence?

- God’s holy presence contrasting our remaining sin
- Bad responses:
- self-condemnation
- self-righteousness
- Self-delusion
- Right response:
- Faith working through love (v. 23)

Love

- what’s it like?
- Christ’s love: Purposeful, intentional action for others that is costly and undeserved (v. 16)
- Charity & Compassion
- How do we get it?
- Eternal life abiding in him (v.15)

Faith

- what’s it like?
- Orientation on God rather than self (v.20)
- God knows everything
- Answered prayer comes through alignment with faith and love
