Everything In Between: Faith & Works
Luke 10:38–42

Are you a Mary or a Martha?

For generations, we’ve treated this story like a personality test — choosing sides between sitting at Jesus’ feet or setting the table. But what if Jesus isn’t asking us to pick a side at all?

On this Second Sunday of Lent, we step into the sacred space between faith and works. Right after telling the lawyer to “go and do likewise” in the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus walks into Martha’s home and tells her it is okay to sit and learn. It’s not a contradiction — it’s a rhythm.

From our Wesleyan roots, we remember: grace awakens us, faith responds, and works flow from transformed hearts. Service is not the root of our faith — it is the fruit. And if we skip sitting at Jesus’ feet, our work becomes anxious striving instead of joyful participation.

This sermon invites us to discover the balance Jesus models — knowing when the moment calls us to act and when it calls us to listen.

Because faith and works are not competitors.
They are partners.
And somewhere in between sitting and serving — that’s where disciples are formed.

Listen in as we explore what it means to live rooted in grace, attentive to the moment, and faithful in both presence and action.
