Our memory is not as infallible as we often like to think it is. Memories may not only be faulty, but your mind can even play tricks on you by inventing memories of events that never transpired. Julia Shaw, seniorer lecturer at London South Bank University, has done a lot of research on false memories and written the book The Memory Illusion.
