Psalm 23 is one of those parts of the Bible everyone seems to know, and many love. It is a poem that captures our need, and the work of God, in familiar words and images. In fact, I reckon it has become part of our secular culture, because it can be read in such a way that all it gives is warm and fuzzy feelings.
However, as we read it carefully, and ask it questions deeply, we will see that this is a poem that provides an awesome – truly awesome – picture of God, which recalibrates all of life (in fact, as David Gibson observes, this is not a funeral poem but a psalm about life!).
As we begin looking at this psalm today, please read it carefully, listen to it carefully, and carefully have your life re-calibrated by meeting the shepherd who is our LORD.
