Pastor Kevin Gandy — Sermon from our weekly gathering at Real Life, Los Angeles, held in Glendora, California. To help us become a more Biblical and Christ-like family, we’ve been in a sermon series called “Family Matters.” First, we believe that our church family does matter. It matters to us, and it matters to God. But there are also matters to deal with in the family. A healthy family is like a healthy garden. You have to plant, prune, weed, and water. Two weeks ago, we talked about planting a healthy garden, starting from the groundwork of putting in place what you want to grow and to last. Then last week, Jim talked about pruning, which is the process of shaving back things that might be good in order to make them even better. Today, we are going to look at the issue of weeding, because every person’s life has weeds. In our lives, we have this idea of what our life SHOULD be. But in REALITY, our lives are like gardens, and even the most beautiful gardens have weeds. And when it comes to weeds, we are going to examine the act of sowing, growing, and knowing the weeds that exist in our lives and in this world.
