The NFL conducted a four-month investigation on the matter and determined there was insufficient evidence that Hill violated the personal-conduct policy.
Since Friday April 25th, there has been rampant speculation
about what the outcome of the pending NFL investigation into Tyreek Hill would
be.
For those who are unfamiliar, Hill was suspended from all
Kansas City Chiefs activities after incriminating audio was released of a
conversation between him and his fiancé Crystal Espinal on the night of the
2019 NFL Draft.
This was added to the previous situation where Hill choked and
beat the same woman while she was pregnant in 2014 before he was eligible for
the NFL Draft. On top of all of this, Hill was also being investigated for the
reason why their three-year-old child was removed from the custody of their
home just days prior to the audio being released. The situation for Hill to say the least did
not look good.
There were some that felt Hill would receive a season long
suspension, some that felt that Hill may never play again, and there were some that
felt this would blow over and Hill and the Chiefs would escape suspension or at
the very least a minimal suspension. For
the record this podcast host felt that the Kansas City chiefs would be playing
the 2019 season without their #1 WR.
This led to incredible uncertainty when it comes to fantasy
football of where to take Tyreek Hill in start up drafts, whether to keep or
trade him due to the pending NFL investigation…
Well, we have an answer now from the NFL. The NFL Will Not Suspend Tyreek Hill For The 2019 Season
Breaking news earlier this morning from Ian Rapoport of NFL
Network revealed that the NFL does not plan to suspend Hill following its
investigation.
According to the NFL, Hill did not violate any of the rules of
the Personal Conduct Policy and is eligible to return to team activities. This
comes just a week or so away from when the Chiefs players will all report for
training camp and the 2019 season will be kicked off.
Fantasy Football Impact
Tyreek Hill should now be elevated back into the 1st round
discussion of redraft leagues. He instantly elevates the offense in Kansas City. During this ongoing saga Hill has climbed from
212 in my initial rankings to 84 in the past few weeks, to 13 today, he is
currently my WR7.
The return of Hill into the Chiefs offense is a huge boost to
Patrick Mahomes‘ potential as well. I
have stated on numerous occasions that I expect Mahomes to regress in
2019. One of the reasons was the absence
of Hill. I still expect regression
however and Mahomes is my top ranked QB
This does mean a slight hit to the other weapons in KC that
stood to benefit from Hill’s absence.
Travis Kelce will naturally see a downtick in targets, but remains
my top TE.
Sammy Watkins will still see plenty of targets and touchdown
opportunities, but the overall number of targets will naturally go down as
well.
The biggest hit to their fantasy outlook for 2019 though is
for rookie Mecole Hardman. Hardman had an incredible opportunity to step onto
the field and make an impact on day one, however, he’ll likely be only on the
field in 3-WR sets and this puts a slight cloud on his projected potential this
season.
