The infamous “Eight Days in September” detailed shocking details of how decisions were taken around the recall of former president Thabo Mbeki. We are now stuck with this unfortunate precedent. When Kgalema Motlanthe was caretaker president for 18 months, he began the process of stripping the NPA by dissolving the Scorpions. The recall of Jacob Zuma was a similar circus. Now the groups that have been singing “Wenzeni uZuma” (what has Zuma done) brigade are out in the streets demanding what they have been saying for two years: Ramaphosa must go. But what process must be followed to remove a sitting president of the country?
