If you’re not familiar with Dead Butt Syndrome (also known as gluteal amnesia), it happens when the glute muscles become weak or inactive — often from too much sitting — causing the body to rely on other muscles to move and stabilize.
This muscle imbalance can lead to tightness, stiffness, and pain across the lower back, hips, and buttocks, sometimes even radiating down the leg like sciatica.
The main culprits are weak or “sleeping” glutes combined with tight hip flexors and surrounding muscles, which throw off hip alignment and strain the lower body.
To fix this, we’ll go over simple exercises that wake up, strengthen, and stretch the glutes and hips for both quick and lasting relief.
