قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : "مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ وَأَتْبَعَهُ سِتًّا مِنْ شَوَّالٍ، كَانَ كَصِيَامِ الدَّهْر". رواه مسلم. قال النووي في شرح صحيح مسلم: قال العلماء: وإنما كان ذلك كصيام الدهر لأن الحسنة بعشر أمثالها، فرمضان بعشرة أشهر والستة بشهرين.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said what means: “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, and follows it up with fasting six days of Shawwal, it is as though he has fasted the whole year.” (narrated by Imam Muslim)
