The ancients believed that there was a cycle of “fat” years followed by “lean” years. Joseph told Pharaoh that Egypt would enjoy 7 fat years years, years in which the harvest would be rich. The returns good. It would be a time to invest.

But this would be followed by 7 lean years. A time when the hot wind would blow out of the dessert, and kill even the seed crops. A time to prepare.
