The Pulse Podcast with Matthew Ruttan

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do

Listen Later

If you take away the cross, you take away everything, including redemption, forgiveness and hope. That’s why Good Friday is so central to absolutely everything. In fact, the only thing standing between us and hell is the cross.

In this Good Friday message (also released as a podcast episode), we push back against any romanticizing of this horrible, bloody event, consider how excruciating it was, and review Jesus’ seven last words from the cross, including Luke 23:34: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” He was speaking about those who tortured and crucified him, but his words transcend the centuries and land directly in our ears, hearts and minds today.

With a crown of thorns on his head, and spikes in his hands and feet, is he still speaking a word specifically for you? One thing is for sure: your forgiveness, your peace, and your eternity with God has so much more with what he has done for you than what you have done for him.
