He is our Sustenance.

Today we focus our attention on the love and goodness of God in providing sustenance for His people in both natural and miraculous ways. We often think of God feeding our spirits, allowing us to grow in His ways. However, God also provides physical nourishment for His children. God fed the Israelites in the wilderness with manna from heaven. The Lord spoke through Elijah and the widow’s flour jar did not go empty. Jesus also fed the multitudes with fishes and loaves.

It should be clear to us that God will continually provide the necessary nourishment on our journey toward Him. Jesus offers the food of eternal life. It is His own Body and Blood, the Living Bread, given to us in the Eucharist. When we dine at the table of the Lord, Jesus becomes part of our life and our being. We become more like Jesus, with renewed strength for doing His work.

As we journey through life and reach out in solidarity to others, we become more aware that the Lord has reached out to us first. He strengthens us, forgives us, heals us, and loves us. He gives us the food that sustains us as we move forward in our journey toward Him.
