Upstaged: Parkinson's and the Never-Ending Improvisation

Fatigue (featuring "Sfumato")

Listen Later

A quintessential symptom of Parkinson's Disease is fatigue, and it seems to hit whenever it wants. As it happens, I'm fighting back yawns as I type this, in spite of fairly sufficient sleep the last few nights, my usual session of brisk cardio exercise this morning, and typical diet. There's so often just no rhyme or reason.

The topic of fatigue makes a great complement to the official theme of ths podcast series. It's called "Sfumato", named for a visual art term (painting, typically) where gradual blending of colors create soft, hazy transitions between light and shadow, without any harsh or distinct outlines-- exactly my goal as I thought of this music being part meditation, part silence.

See the Mona Lisa for an example of sfumato in action.
