I wasn’t even looking for a song that night. I just had my phone on shuffle while sitting on the balcony in Abuja, the city quiet except for the occasional generator hum. Then Theophilus Sunday’s voice came through, low and raw:

“All I have brought is a sacrifice, a sacrifice of me.”

That first line stopped me mid-scroll. No drums. No heavy production. Just truth. It didn’t sound like worship you perform. It sounded like worship you’ve lived. In that moment, I realized I’d been bringing God my time, my plans, my excuses — but never actually bringing me. The line hit like a quiet alarm: “You’ve been giving everything except yourself.”

But the line that completely undid me was this one:

“I know I have wasted so much time, but please Lord, I bring what is left of me, because all I brought is a sacrifice of me.”

I had to pause the song. I was staring at my hands, and tears just came. Not dramatic tears — the heavy, silent kind. Because it was me. All the years I spent chasing things, making promises to do better “next month,” delaying prayer, delaying purpose. And here was a man on a mic admitting it without shame, then turning that brokenness into an offering.

That phrase “what is left of me” wrecked me because it’s honest. It’s not the polished version of us we like to present. It’s the tired, flawed, late version. And yet Theophilus says, bring it anyway. God doesn’t want perfection. He wants presence. He wants the remainder, the scraps, the part of us we think isn’t good enough.

That’s why I want to perform the cover for the #HMF community week 186 round 3.

I don’t want to perform it to sound good. I want to perform it because this song gave language to a season I couldn’t explain. I want to stand in this round and sing back to God what He’s been teaching me: that He’s not waiting for the perfect version of me. He’s waiting for the real version.

And if one person in this community hears it and feels the same weight lift — that it’s okay to come with what’s left — then the sacrifice is worth it.

Hello everyone I welcome you to hive music festival week 185 round 2

I am favourstrings and today I will be singing a song cover by dusin oyenka with the song title no throne without the cross.

#HMF Cover*

Some songs are beautiful. Others are necessary. No Throne Without the Cross by Dunsin Oyekan is necessary for me. It’s the song that pulls me out of casual worship and plants me at Calvary again.

I didn’t grow up with crowns and glory talk. I grew up knowing struggle. So when Dunsin sings, “No throne without the cross, there’s no sacrifice without the blood,” it hits different. It reminds me that every level, every victory, every door God opens sits on the foundation of what Jesus already bled for. I can’t skip the cross and expect the crown. I can’t want the throne and reject the nails. That line kills entitlement in me. It keeps me sober.

But the part that breaks me every single time is: “All this You did for me, no me without You.”

The song doesn’t let me clap and dance alone. It makes me bow. It makes me remember Gethsemane before I celebrate Pentecost. It’s worship with weight.

#HMF — Hive Music Festival — is where we bring our most honest selves. Week after week, I’ve watched people here sing through tears, through pain, through testimony. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence. And that’s exactly what No Throne Without the Cross demands: presence.

I want to do this cover in #HMF because this community understands sacrifice. Many of us create when we’re tired, record when data is low, show up when life is heavy. We know what it means to carry a cross before we wear a crown. So singing this song here feels like coming home.

My cover won’t be vocal gymnastics. It’ll be surrender. I want us to remember together that our platforms, our gifts, our very lives on Hive — they all exist because of the Blood. If my voice shakes while I sing “no me without You,” good. It should. Because it’s true.

I’m bringing this song to #HMF Week 185 not to impress, but to confess. To remind myself and anyone listening: we reign because He bled. We have thrones because He chose the cross.
