The Modern English Version of Joshua 1:9 declares, “Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Fear is a reality of our human experience that may include a fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of people and the list goes on and on. The reality of fear is that it is a powerful human emotion that alerts us to the presence of danger.
The Amplified Version of 2 Timothy 1:7 proclaims, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”
No matter what fears we face, we can overcome them all because of the power and love of a sound mind, established in God’s word, knowing that as God said to Joshua in chapter 1, verse 9, “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with you wherever you go.” And because God is with us we can face fear, the challenger and opponent of our faith and in the end, we always win.
