Fear.  It’s something that almost everyone deals with on a daily basis.

Fear can be as simple as heights and spiders or it can show up as crippling anxiety.

No matter how we are affected by our fears the reality is that we all have them, and it’s in our fears that we experience a complete lack of peace.

This week we  look at how to regain the peace that we desperately need in our lives through placing our hope in Jesus Christ.

Good morning….

I want to start out today by being very honest with you all…

My name is justin and I suffer from acrophobia….

That’s the scientific way of saying….

I hate heights

My wife janae…. She doesn’t share this same fear

She jumped out of an airplane…. Me… Never….

Even talking about it makes me feel sick

I am scared to death of heights

I have a very real fear of heights….

Thank you god for making me short…. Because I don’t know if I could

Handle being tall….

Well moses ends up going and delivering the message and it all works

Out just as god planned and because moses finally placed his faith in

God

Moses was just like you and me…

Even when he heard god tell him exactly what to do…

He doubted him…

He was afraid of being wrong…

He was fearful of all the other potential outcomes…

Moses isn’t the only one…

There are countless stories in the bible of people being afraid because

They misplace their faith…

Let’s fast forward a little bit further into the old testament…

God told the israelites… The same group that had been liberated by the

Hand of god from pharoah….

The same people that had seen the seven plagues

The same people that had walked across the parted red sea on dry

Ground….

God told them to go and occupy the promise land….The perfect place

That god had chosen for them and what do they do?

They get scared….

They go and scout out the land and they see that it’s amazing..

There is only one problem… There are giants living in the land

God knew that there were giants there

He also knew that the land was the perfect place for them

They lost sight of the promise because they became fearful

They misplaced their faith

They put their faith in their ability to defeat the giants instead of

Putting their faith in god’s plan and promise for them

They misplace their faith and they and deprived of the peace that comes

With just taking god at his word

This goes on for generations

Their fear is passed down through the years and the israelites become

Paralyzed with fear

Then after moses dies joshua leads the charge to finally take the

Promised land despite the fact that there are giants in the land

Joshua 1:1-9

After the death of moses the servant of the lord, the lord said to

Joshua son of nun, moses’ aide: 2 “moses my servant is dead. Now then,

You and all these people, get ready to cross the jordan river into the

Land I am about to give to them—to the israelites. 3 I will give you every

Place where you set your foot, as I promised moses. 4 your territory

Will extend from the desert to lebanon, and from the great river, the

Euphrates—all the hittite country—to the mediterranean sea in the

West. 5 no one will be able to stand against you all the days of your

Life. As I was with moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor

Forsake you. 6 be strong and courageous, because you will lead these

People to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

7 “be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my

Servant moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left,

That you may be successful wherever you go. 8 keep this book of the

Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may

Be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous

And successful. 9 have I not commanded you? Be strong and

Courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the lord

Your god will be with you wherever you go.”
