“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” — Proverbs 11:14 (ESV)

“Now when the south wind blew gently, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to the shore.” — Acts 27:13 (ESV)

“And fearing that we might run on the rocks, they let down four anchors from the stern and prayed for day to come.” — Acts 27:29 (ESV)

Have you ever felt like life was spinning out of control—like you were stuck in a storm you didn’t ask for? That’s what was happening in Acts 27 when Paul and the crew found themselves in a raging storm at sea. They had started off thinking everything was fine—the gentle south wind felt safe (Acts 27:13). But before they knew it, the waves were pounding, the ship was breaking apart, and they were throwing cargo overboard just to survive. In the middle of that chaos, they dropped four anchors and prayed for daylight (Acts 27:29).

Life is like that sometimes. One moment things feel steady, and the next you’re slammed with stress, drama, or decisions you didn’t see coming. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us that when we lack guidance, we’re more likely to fall apart. But when we seek advice, hold on to God’s Word, and surround ourselves with people who point us to truth, we find safety. Just like those anchors kept the ship from drifting, God gives us anchors for our faith—His presence, His promises, and the people He places in our lives.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Drop Your Anchors: What “anchors” help keep your faith steady when life gets rough—prayer, Scripture, wise friends, youth group? How can you hold tighter to them when storms hit?

2. Don’t Sail Alone: Proverbs 11:14 reminds us that we need guidance. Who are the people in your life you can turn to for godly advice instead of trying to figure everything out on your own?

3. Pray for Daylight: The sailors prayed for morning to come. What’s one situation in your life where you need God’s light and direction right now?

BOTTOM LINE

When storms hit, drop your anchors in God’s truth and trust Him to bring the daylight.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my anchor when life feels chaotic. Help me to seek wise guidance, hold on to Your promises, and trust You through the storms I face. Bring Your light into the places where I feel lost or afraid, and remind me that You are always in control. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
