Feel With Others — Love in Action

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” - Romans 12:15

Have you ever noticed it’s sometimes easier to cry with someone than to celebrate with them? When a friend is hurting, we naturally want to comfort them, be there, and maybe pray with them. But when that same friend gets something we hoped for — like a relationship, a compliment, or a big opportunity — celebrating with them can feel… complicated.

Why? Because deep down, our human hearts struggle with jealousy and pride. Without Jesus, we often think more about ourselves than others. Sometimes, we secretly feel better when others fail, and that’s not love.

Paul is calling us to a different kind of love — one that truly rejoices when others succeed and genuinely hurts when others suffer. That kind of love only comes when we let Jesus change our hearts.

Jesus is the perfect example. He cried at Lazarus’ tomb, showing us He feels our pain. But He also said there’s joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7). Jesus feels with us — in both our grief and our joy — and He calls us to do the same for others.

Today’s Challenge:

Pray for a heart that’s humble and full of empathy. Ask yourself honestly: Do I truly rejoice when others are happy? Pick one person today — someone celebrating or struggling — and reach out with sincere love.

Prayer:

Lord, take away selfishness, jealousy, and pride from my heart. Teach me to love like You do. Help me rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. Make my heart more like Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
