Today we discuss buzz around J. Lo's Motown Grammy performance in relation to theories of cultural appropriation, Arianna Grande's performance of race in relation to the notion of black fishing, and also use our critical race theory skills to unpack notions of Whiteness, how essentialism complicates these critiques, and also how it all connects to capitalism. In this episode we talk about the "crazy women" narratives perpetuated by the news media in the 1990s (Lorena Bobbit, Marsha Clark, Tonya Harding, Monica Lewinsky, Amy Fisher, etc.).
