At the Fernald School, boys were enrolled in what was described as a “science club.” Some were given breakfast cereal as part of a nutritional study.

Years later, declassified records revealed that the cereal had been laced with radioactive isotopes. The study was funded in part by federal agencies seeking data on human exposure.
