In this episode we welcome The Angry Foster Mama, Caitlin Johnson to the show. We talk about what FASD is, how it effects the child, what the signs and symptoms are, and treatment options. We also touch upon reactive attachment disorder (RAD), the intersection between complex trauma and RAD, and what RAD looks like children.
What is FASD:
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders is an umbrella term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother drank alcohol during pregnancy. These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications.
What are the types of FASD:
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)
Alcohol-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND)
Alcohol-Related Birth Defects (ARBD)
Neurobehaviorial Disorder Associated with Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (ND-PAE)
What is Reactive Attachment Disorder:
A condition found in children who may have received grossly negligent care and do not form a healthy emotional attachment with their primary caregivers -- usually their mothers -- before age 5.
