If there’s one thing that every parent has worried about at one time or another, it’s fever.
As long as a fever is around, there is so much left unknown. How high will it get? How long will it stay? How uncomfortable will my child get?
Even the most experienced parents can have a tiny, nagging sensation of worry in the back of their minds when their kids have a fever. I’ve seen this firsthand–both as a doctor and as a dad.
A fever is a natural response to something going on inside the body, usually an infection. But while it’s a normal occurrence and only a piece of what’s going on with a child, we as a culture have come to fear the fever itself. We obsess over the number and worry when we can’t bring it all the way down.
But what if we’ve been looking at fever all wrong?
