The 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku delivered a thrilling race, with Oscar Piastri of McLaren taking his second career victory. Piastri's triumph came after an intense battle with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who led early but lost out to Piastri following pit stops. Piastri made a decisive move on lap 20, overtaking Leclerc into Turn One, and then defended fiercely to keep the Ferrari driver behind for much of the race. In the closing laps, Piastri managed to pull away as Leclerc's tires degraded, sealing a hard-fought win.

Lando Norris also had a standout performance, recovering from 15th to finish 4th, narrowly beating Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Norris tactically used other cars' DRS to fend off Verstappen before passing him in the final laps. The race ended under a Virtual Safety Car after Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz collided while battling for 5th, with Perez retiring from the race. McLaren's strong performance has now shaken up the constructors' standings, putting them in contention as title challengers​
