I stumbled across these interesting lights while browsing eBay and got one to look at. Although they are designed to be used in a multiple, one on its own still has some appeal, and the construction is quite nice. The main body of the light is machined from aluminium.
By default they come with a colour changing LED designed to work directly at 12V, but they can be hacked to have a fixed colour and to run at 5V which means a classic 5V 1A USB charger could power up to 50 of them! That also allows customisable intensity and future serviceability.
I think these are intended for area theming in restaurants or other places of entertainment.
I did a slight modification that allows the LED to be replaced with one of your own choice for specific colours and future serviceability. The connector I used was a JST-XH (2.54mm) type that is a friction fit into a 6.5mm slightly reamered hole, or could possibly be glued into a looser 7mm hole. You can get bundles of pre-terminated connectors to save fumbling with tiny crimps.
Removing the hot melt glue was irksome, it may be better to chop the cable and heat the base to remove the LED and then use a drop of isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) to free up the remaining glue.
Unless you just wish to use the housing, I don't recommend removing the fibre optic bundle from its retaining ring as it is not easy to get it back in.
This is the UK eBay listing I got this from:-

They are also available from AliExpress - here's a typical listing, but a search for fiber optic jellyfish will find many:-
