As World War II encroached further into everyday life in northern Italy, Carlo Soriano still walked to the town piazza with his dog Fido each morning for work. He would hop on a bus only to return each evening with Fido anxiously awaiting his arrival. Until one day, Carlo didn’t get off the bus and Fido was left waiting for a master who would never return.
