If you've heard the word glaucoma and quietly panicked, you are not alone and you're in the right place. Hi, I'm Nikki D. I'm not a doctor. I'm not here to give any medical advice. actually a glaucoma patient walking this journey in real time. And this podcast was born out of something really, really personal. When I was diagnosed, I was scared. Not dramatic scared, not falling apart.
Not falling apart scared, but quiet, internal 2 a.m. Google searching scared. And the hardest part, I looked completely fine. No one around me could see what I was carrying on the inside. I was going to my appointments, hearing words like pressure, progression, visual field, and optic nerve damage, and then going home trying to process it all alone.
I joined support groups on Facebook and I read posts and I saw the anxiety. I had the anxiety. I saw the fear and I had the fear. I saw all the comparisons and I was comparing myself and I realized something. There really isn't a steady space for people like us living with glaucoma. There are medical sites, there are statistics, there are worst case scenario stories, but there isn't enough calm.
transparent, grounded conversation about what it's actually like to live with this diagnosis. So I created Field of Vision. This is a podcast for people living with glaucoma like me, like you, and those newly diagnosed. I'm going to share my real numbers, my real stories, my real appointments, my real emotional reactions responsibly and without sensationalism.
We'll talk about eye pressure, visual field tests, OCT scans, anxiety between appointments, lifestyle choices, faith, fear, and what it looks like to live steadily with uncertainty. This is not about reversing glaucoma. Nope. It's not about miracle cures. And it's not about pretending it's nothing. It's about learning how to hold the diagnosis without letting it hold you. And that's super important.
Field Of Vision (02:45.678)
Glaucoma is highly individualized. What happens in my journey may not happen in yours. Your doctor's guidance matters. Your data matters. Your care plan matters. But your mindset matters too. And if you're sitting in your car after an appointment or lying awake at night wondering what your future looks like, I want you to hear this. You are not alone. We can't control every number, but we can control how we respond to them.
Welcome to Field of Vision. Let's walk this steadily together. I'm so excited to walk this journey with you.
